Located along the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains, the City of Rancho Santa Margarita was incorporated on January 1, 2000, and became the 33rd city in the County of Orange holding the longest city name in California.

The City was planned and developed to become an “Urban Village” with one Master Association overseeing the community and development sub associations to the master association. The Master Association maintains 13 parks, 4 pools, a lagoon, a lake and numerous trails within the community. Central Park located next to City Hall, contains a large amphitheater where a number of community events are held each year.

The City has a population of over 48,000. The central community is comprised of enclaves of townhomes, condominium homes and neighborhoods of single family residences, most in a Spanish architectural flavor. A man made lake and private beach club is surrounded by several developments with lake views. There are three distinct communities within the City of Rancho Santa Margarita.
